Název projektu:
A novel process for the production of agglomerate for fibre-reinforced plastics (09 DE 1699 3D6Q)
Popis:
A university from Germany developed a novel process and device which allows the production of long, natural or other fibre agglomerates suitable for the manufacturing of fibre-reinforced plastic mouldings with a high-quality structure. Presently, the process is used in the production of injection molding materials and equipment. The university seeks industrial partners interested in futher development or license agreement.
The novel process and device developed by a German university allow the production of long, natural or other fibre agglomerates suitable for the manufacturing of fibre-reinforced plastic mouldings with a high-quality structure.
The fibre agglomerates can also be used for heat and acoustic insulation, for fluid conditioning, as filters and as organic growth media. Natural fibres have long been used to reinforce plastics. Currently, fibre-reinforced plastics are mainly produced using compression moulding, which permits only a limited variety of surface structures in the end product.
Injection moulding improves the product's appearance. However, the input material required is produced mainly in mechanical devices that can only deliver short-fibre, high-density agglomerates. Other processes are available, for example by adding fabrics, but their costs are prohibitive. Moreover, common mechanical and thermal processes may impair the characteristics of the compound.
The novel process and the related device are suitable for producing long-fibre agglomerates for use in injection moulding. Such agglomerates are particularly interesting for the automotive industry as they permit the production of more varied surface structures in compression moulding. The invention thus permits penetration of market segments usually reserved to other materials.
Innovative Aspects:
- Agglomeration through fibre catching.
- Dry or wet processing.
- Processing of pure natural fibres with a share up to 100% (but also blends).
- Applicable fibre length nearly unlimited.
- Agglomerates are variable in shape, size and porosity.
- No binder required.
- Careful processing preserves the fibres' reinforcing properties.
- Production of permanent or disintegrating agglomerates.
- Production of agglomerates to meet users' requirements.
- Easy thermal recycling.
