Název projektu:
Air cleaning system multifunctional photocatalytic protective coating (11 CZ 0746 3L3O)
Popis:
A small Czech company has developed and patented a smart and highly efficiency air cleaner based on the principle of a photo-catalytic effect with water suspensions of the photocatalytic titanium dioxide and inorganic binders. The photocatalytic coating activated by ultraviolet radiation dissociates organic microparticles of carcinogens, viral and bacteria molecules. The company is interested in license agreement and technical assistance.
Industrial and exhaust exhalations, organic contaminants from plastics and many other substances around us are threat to human health and they lower the quality of our environment. According to the WTO, more than 15% of chronic diseases are caused by bad air quality. A high percentage of allergies, contagious infections, bad odors or darkening of facades are a few examples of the impacts of contaminated air. Man is forced to protect himself and one exciting possibility is the use of photocatalytic coatings.
Titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles in dimension 100 nm are very perspective material with unique properties in the production of materials for a photocatalysis, cosmetic applications and catalytic structures. The self-cleaning photocatalytic coating is the highly efficiency failure-free air cleaner. After the suspension is applied, it creates about 5-10 micron thin film. The film is activated by the day light or another UV source and decomposing pollutants on the surface. Small concentrations of organic pollutions coming to a contact (collision) with illuminated surface of TiO2 will react with the air oxygen producing water, carbon dioxide and other mineral compounds. In case of the light deficit, UV can be ensured by stand-alone sources of health safety frequencies such as UV lamps.
The active compound of the titanium dioxide suspension is a common pigment surrounding us just everywhere (paper, paints, plastics, whip cream, bread). It does not represent any health risk. Efficiency of the photocatalytic coating is not time-dependent. In case of the mechanical damage the coat can be repaired by the suspension re-application.
Innovative Aspects:
Photocatalytic coatings with nanoparticles TiO2 represent next generation of photocatalytic products that qualify as an air cleaning systems. The composition is organics, silicate and silicone free demonstrating 10-100 times higher efficiencies for the polution removal and bacterial killing than other photocatalytic paints and top coats that are currently on the market.
