A start up company based in North-Eastern Italy, working in energy sector is looking for partners in order to characterize solar grade silicon obtained by an innovative process starting from biomass for photovoltaics applications. silicon wafer producers/private companies working in solar cells production are sought for analysis, test and characterization of biomass-based solar grade silicon in the frame of a technical cooperation agreement.
A start up company based in North-estern Italy, working in energy sector is interested in industrializing an innovative production process to obtain solar grade silicon starting from biomass for photovoltaics applications. The company has been working at the project for more than three years, and the R&D has been developed all over the world. Research centres from USA, Russia and Europe have contributed to the lab scale success of the process.
Currently there are 3 Italian private companies and one USA company working on the scaling up of the project, and the funding are both private and public.
The main interest of the company is to contact/being contacted by silicon wafer producers and/or solar cells producers in order to test and, later on, commercialise the material that will be produced.The company is interested in technical cooperation.

This is a new process to obtain Solar Grade Silicon. The main interest of the company is to contact/being contacted by silicon wafer producers and/or solar cells producers in order to test and sell the material that will be produced.
- Experts in Silicon crystal growing,
- Experts in carbo-reduction furnaces (Electric Arc Furnace or Electric Resistance Furnaces)
- Chemical and physical analysis on silicon purity.
The partner sought is requested to develop the following steps:
- Crystal growth;
- test on light induced degradation, recombination
- mechanical test on "Biosilicon" wafer
- efficiency test on cells/modules with "Biosilicon" substrates
