A large US company is looking for development partners for patterning, based on chemical-processings, Carbon Nanotube (CNT) films formed on Poly Ethylene Terephtalate (PET) substrates.
They are interested in joint development, development contract, licensing.
The company has successfully developed world leading quality CNT transparent conductive films. Technologies for efficiently patterning the CNT films are the key enablers for developing and expanding CNT film business. Replacements of conventional transparent conductive films such as ITO (Indium Tin Oxide) films with the CNT films may be accelerated, particularly if such patterning methods are developed that can be incorporated into the fabrication process of conventional films.
The client has been exploring chemical etching technologies for patterning highly robust CNT films without damaging the PET substrates. Regardless of the challenges, considering the growing interest in patterning technologies of CNT applications such as semi conductors or electronic devices, radical innovation that may fulfill the requirements may arise somewhere in the world.
The client anticipates not only proposals of established technologies but also development proposals of potentially promising technologies.
Anticipated approaches include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Radical innovation in etchant
- Use of plasma technologies
- Use of catalysts
- Next generation nano-lithography.
Technical Specifications / Specific technical requirements:
CNT films to be processed:
-Film thickness: = 100nm
-Surface resistivity: 500~5000
-Light transmittance: 80-90%
Requirements for patterning technologies:
-Patterning solution
Minimum line width: 30 µm
Minimum light pitch: 60 µm
-Processing time: = 3 min
Can simultaneously process an area of = 10 x 10 cm²
-Processing temperature: = 10°C
i.e., damage to the PET substrate.
Satisfying all the requirements is not mandatory at the proposal stage. Development proposals still under basic study are welcomed, so long as their underlying principle is feasible. Proposals of radical innovations such as selectively forming CNT films along micro-patterns also are of interest as alternative means to patterning of already formed films on substrates.

Responses from companies (large or small, startups, etc.), hospital or academic researchers, contract research institutes, pharmacologists, nutritionists, medicinal chemists, drug formulators, biochemists, physiologists, alternative or traditional medicine providers, etc., from around the world are all welcome.
The client will review submitted proposals and possibly ask clarifying questions or request supporting data before selecting the most suitable candidates for collaboration. The client will execute non disclosure agreements (NDA with selected respondents, if necessary, seek further information disclosure, and discuss specific development targets or potential opportunities. The client will proceed to preliminary technology verification with one or several promising parties through sample prototyping and/or testing.
The client will execute necessary agreements with the selected candidates when the potential feasibility is verified, and kick off the project toward establishing the technology. Specifics of any collaboration will be determined through consultation with the concerned parties.
