Název projektu:
Easy to Peel Coatings that Can Be Applied on Hot Food Products (11 LU 87GA 3MQB)
Popis:
A large US company is looking for proposals for an innovative material that can completely coat a hot and viscous food product. After cooling, the applied coating product is easily peeled from the solidified food.
They are interested in supplier agreement, licensing, proof of concept leading to scale up to manufacturing, joint development, contract research.
Coatings are generally based on hydrophobic materials made from hydrocarbons. Specific grades are used for food applications where they offer a high moisture barrier and excellent protection against fungal contamination. The coating is mostly applied on cold (2-8°C) food products. The typical range of end-use temperatures is 2-30°C and at these temperatures the coating can be easily torn open to extract food.
The company would like to apply such coatings on hot food products in order to minimize the risk of bio-contamination.
The processed foods of interest all contain fat (10 to 40%) like candies (caramel and soft candy), cheeses and dairy products, or processed meat products.
Possible approaches might include, but are not limited to:
-Hydrogels combined with an outside moisture protective layer
-Food-safe additives able to alter the rheological properties of malleable materials
-Novel hydrophobic materials
-Amorphous or crystalline materials.
The following approaches are not of interest:
-Coating materials for hot dipping of the food
-Thermoformed foil or film for hard half-shells
-Hydrophilic materials since these do not provide a moisture barrier.
Technical Specifications / Specific technical requirements:
The successful product will:
- Be processed in a temperature range of 70-10°C where the food product is a viscous liquid (1-20 Pa.s)
- Be able to uniformly coat the viscous food in a short-time process (10 to 100 times per minute) like:
Injection of the food product with the coating material in a mould
Co-extrusion of both food and subsequent food injection
- Be in contact with the food product but not intermingle
- Be congealed below 60°
- Be malleable and easily torn open for extraction of the food product
- Offer a complete barrier to moisture to prevent weight loss and bio-contamination
- Be approved for food contact use or food grade
- Be cost effective.

Požadavky na partnera:
Requested Cooperation: License Agreement, Joint further development, Testing of new applications, Adaptation to specific needs
Responses from companies (large or small, startups, etc.), hospital or academic researchers, contract research institutes, pharmacologists, nutritionists, medicinal chemists, drug formulators, biochemists, physiologists, alternative or traditional medicine providers, etc., from around the world are all welcome.
Phase 1 proof of concept
Demonstration of suitable technologies by bench-scale testing with the target food product. Initial cost evaluations will also be an important deliverable.
Phase 2 advanced development and scale up pilot scale testing.
Note that this profile requires a convincing solution proposal. Please contact your local EEN to get the Response template and find more information on the specific process here: http://www.us-eu-match.com/index.cfm?action=processFlow
