Název projektu:
Highly-Durable Ultra-Water-Repellant Surface Treatments for Stainless Steel (11 US 87GA 3M2W)
Popis:
A US multi-billion dollar food manufacturer, invites proposals for highly-durable ultra-water-repellent surface treatments for food and beverage processing equipment. Of interest are not only coatings but also surface modification or patterning. Proposers are anticipated to provide samples upon request.
The client seeks ultra-water-repellent surface treatments for food and beverage processing equipment in order to reduce the use and discharge of water during cleaning. The client has not yet identified durable treatments that can withstand cycles of cleaning without risking food sanitation and safety requirements.
There has been significant development of water-repellent technologies for versatile applications such as solar panels, automobiles, kitchen appliances, and medical equipment. With a belief that potentially useful technologies may already exist, the client issues this open request throughout the world.
The client anticipates not only acquiring established technologies but also conducting joint development or development-contract with promising parties.
Technical Specifications / Specific technical requirements:
Performance Requirements
- Repellency: contact angle › 170° (for water)
- Durability: can withstand long use against cycles of stationary cleaning without any damage, e.g., cracking, peeling, leaking out:
* Anticipated cleaning liquid is alkali (3 to 4%) or hot-water (90 ºC), but could be water, if the surface repellency is great enough that flushing out with water will sufficiently clean the equipment
- Safety: conform to food sanitation acts and/or food-safety standards, and will not contaminate the food or beverage
Equipment Description
- Target parts: tanks, pipe, piping joint or cock
- Material: Stainless steel
- Content: food, beverage, or alcohol
* Liquid viscosity: 1 to 6,000 cp
Proposals for approaches to meet the requirements within one to two years are welcomed. Technologies that can be cost-effectively applied to large areas are preferred.
POSSIBLE APPROACHES
Anticipated approaches include but are not necessarily limited to the following:
- Ultra-water-repellent coatings
* Coatings by using silicone-acrylic block copolymer
* Fluorine-doped Diamond Like Carbon coatings
* Organic coatings providing concavity and convexity by inclusion of nano-particles
* Organic or in-organic coatings with controlled surface roughness based on plasma crystallization
* Coatings providing lotus leaf like micro- or nano-structures on the surface
- Surface modification or patterning
* Use of surface modification material
* Surface modification by laser shot peening
* Surface treatment by plasma
* Surface patterning or in-printing by using micro- or nano-structured mold
