Název projektu:
Improved Positioning Systems for High-Tech Manufacturing (11 US 87GA 3LHQ)
Popis:
A large US company is looking for a novel suspension system that enables ceiling mounted equipment to be easily and accurately repositioned. They are interested in proof of concept leafing to scale up to manufacturing, joint development, potential supplier agreement up to 5.000 units/year, licensing, product acquisition, contract research.
High-tech manufacturing practices require specialized equipment that is too heavy and bulky to be easily repositioned, especially while performing multiple tasks at the same time.
Positioning ceiling suspended equipment offers a special challenge that would benefit from improved suspension systems. Allowing suspended equipment to be positioned accurately and with minimal effort would greatly enhance worker satisfaction and productivity.
Many high-tech manufacturing processes also require clean room conditions, and systems for these applications must be easy to clean and maintain.
The goal of this request is to find a new and improved method of suspending overhead equipment that allows it to be moved between any two points intuitively, accurately and with minimal effort.
Possible approaches might include, but are not limited to:
- Articulated or jointed solid arms
- Telescoping or collapsible arms
- Flexible tubing
- Novel geometric mechanical designs
- Mechanical or active braking systems for easy start and stop
- Manual or assisted systems (mechanical, pneumatic or electrical)
- Computer or microprocessor aided logic or assistance.
The following approaches are not of interest:
- Systems requiring ceiling mounted tracks are not desirable.
Technical Specifications / Specific technical requirements:
The successful technology will:
- Enable users to reach up and reposition overhead equipment while maintaining focus on their primary task
- Allow equipment to be moved directly between any two points in a 6-8 foot diameter work area
- Give equipment freedom of movement and feeling of weightlessness
- Require little effort for the user to initiate movement but will stop and remain in place at the end of the movement (easy to use, accurate and drift-free)
- Be able to tilt or aim equipment as desired by the user once positioned
- Be able to support and position equipment weighing 10 35 lbs (up to 4 independently movable pieces of equipment / work area)
- Be easy to install, maintain and clean
- Preferably provide a pathway for conducting electric power and other signals to suspended equipment
- Preferably be compatible with clean room operation
- Have cost effective design.
