Název projektu:
Linear Alternator for a Free-Piston Engine (11 US 87GA 3LQE)
Popis:
A large US company is looking for proposals to aid in the development of a compact linear alternator to be integrated into an opposed free-piston engine. The client is looking for designs for a linear alternator and rectifier which are optimized for efficiency, cost and packaging. They are interested in contract research and development, proof of concept leading to scale up to development, supplier agreement.
Free piston engines have been under development for over 80 years. Although interest in such devices waned in the 1950's, it has been rekindled recently as such machines are considered for electrical power generators. Increased interest in a wide range of electrical power generation strategies has resulted in growing interest in compact, high efficiency machines. Laboratories under sponsorship has developed a research prototype concept which is being used for feasibility studies. However it is not realistic for potential production use for several reasons. The company is interested in developing a new approach to this problem which integrates the electrical machine and the engine as one package. They feel such a free-piston linear alternator could provide compact, high efficiency electrical power generation with unique performance characteristics.
Technical Specifications / Specific technical requirements:
The specific requirements and goals for this application are as follows:
- Piston Stroke approximately 100 mm for each piston
- Frequency 30 to 80 hz
- Bore (magnet outer diameter) approximately 125 to 150 mm
- Battery voltage approximately 300 volts
- Desired output 15 kW to 50kW.
Parameters to be determined in the project are:
- Cylinder design and material
- Magnet dimensions (width and thickness)
- Number and arrangement of magnets
- Magnet material
- Coil dimensions (width and thickness)
- Number of coils
- Number of turns/coil
- Rectifier design
- Power control scheme.
Deliverables will include designs for and supporting analysis of an optimized system showing its predicted performance and electrical efficiency. The client has extensive background in the free-piston engine field, but is seeking expertise in electrical component, magnet and rectifier designs and predictive analysis capabilities for such an electrical system. Proposed solutions can consider both single and three-phase machines for this application.
