A large US company is looking for proposals for a transparent and highly heat resistant resin with low coefficients of linear expansion, similar to that of glass.
They are interested in joint or contract development, material supply.
The company is developing new composite members using resins that are transparent, highly heat resistant, and have low coefficients of linear expansion. Such resins have received attention as substitutes for glass. Research and development related to such materials has been studied in business and academia through the world because the materials have a potential to realize flexible devices such as solar cells, organic EL, and liquid crystals.
Therefore, the client believes that technologies that can be used to solve this problem exist throughout the world, and they have issued this technology request in order to further accelerate their technology or development. The client anticipates technology proposals from organizations that already possess the required technology or promising development proposals based on joint development or contract development.
Anticipated approaches include, but are not limited to, the following:
-Using nanocomposites (nanofillers/polymides or silicones composites)
Nanoclays / alicuclic polyimides composites
Nanocomposites using transparent particles such as silica
Nanocomposites using whiskers
-Hybrid materials containing silsesquixane structures
-Use of the stacking effect of polycyclic aromatic compounds
Introducing polycyclic structures into polyimides
-Polyimide fluorination.

Final requirements
-Coefficient of linear expansion: from several ppm to several tens of ppm per °C
-Heat resistance: safety either of the following:
Glass transition point: =350°C
Degradation temperature at 5% weight loss: =550°C (measurement environment not specified)
-Transparency:
=90% transmittance for visible light, preferably colorless
At the present time there are no restrictions on other properties such as elasticity and strength.
Requirements on respondents
-Even if the above requirements are not satisfied at the present time, respondents should describe the current performance and have the prospect of achieving the requirements in one to two years with additional development
-Ability to provide samples (several hundred grams) that meet the above requirements. (if additional development is required, provide samples once all requirements are met).

The client will review submitted proposals and select multiple candidates for detailed investigation. The client will execute non-disclosure agreements (NDA) with selected respondents if needed, seek further information disclosure and discuss specific development targets or potential opportunities. The client will select the best candidate through evaluations of supporting information, samples, face to face meetings, etc.
The client will execute necessary agreements with the selected respondents and kick off the project to establish the technology (one to two years). Specifics of any collaboration will be determined through consultation with the concerned parties.
