Název projektu:
Partners to Prototype and Produce Alternatives to Metal Parts (11 LU 87GA 3MCT)
Popis:
A large US company is looking for partners who can prototype and produce parts from new, alternative materials to replace a metal part.
They are interested in licensing, joint development and supplier agreement.
The company is exploring new product designs which will replace a part constructed from spring steel wire with an alternative material. The metal part provides a structural backbone as a subcomponent in another assembly. Part redesign may involve new materials with optimized geometry, thermal expansion, stiffness, breakage resistance and resistance to twist.
The design process will likely require iterative prototyping with different materials or material formulations followed by a process of limited production prior to scaling to commercial quantities.
Approaches not of interest
Approaches that use materials with an unfavorable environmental, health and safety profile.
Technical Specifications / Specific technical requirements:
Partners should have the ability to:
- Develop of formulate material alternatives to spring feel
- Prototype new part designs
Permit the company's client to iterate designs with different materials through proof of concept and product trials
- Rapidly scale up to manufacture commercial quantities of the new part design
Or have manufacturing partners to leverage.
The successful manufacturing technology will:
- Permit high-volume, low cost production
- Use one or more of the following techniques
Extrusion
Pultrusion
Injection molding
Woven or braided constructions
- Permit creation of complex forms
Cut-outs
Post-formed shapes
Custom cross-sections
Part characteristics
- Size scale
Length from 10-30 cm
Nominal width from 3-5 mm
Nominal sickness from 10 µm to 3 mm
- Parts are typically formed over their length into curved arcs
- Part may have cross-section that is uniformly flat or that varies in two dimensions over part length
- Parts may be segmented.
Materials of interest:
- Plastics (especially those that can be injection molded)
- Glass reinforced materials
- Carbon fiber
- Engineered composites.
