Název projektu:
PS: FP 7 NMP - Halogen-free flame retardants (11 AT 0108 3M1R)
Popis:
An Austrian university is acting as project coordinator for a proposal which will be submitted in the call: FP7-NMP-2011 Nanosciences, Nanotechnologies, Materials and new Production Technologies. The proposal is related to the development of new (bio-based) halogen-free and multifunctional flame retardants. Additional SME partners with expertise in processing and testing of polymers are invited to join an existing project consortium.
Flame retardance is a major requisite for a lot of applications especially in the areas of construction, energy and transport. Although halogen-based flame retardant additives deliver a high performance, the use of such materials is harmful to the environment as well as to human health and is / will be understandably banned. Unfortunately, currently available alternatives mean a step backwards in mechanical as well as processing properties. For this reason the University is working on the development of new (bio-based) halogen-free and multifunctional flame retardants, which are tailor-made for each polymer / application. The research will focus on the fields of building (e.g. insulation), energy (e.g. cable & wire) and transport (e.g. automotive). Besides material development and application, the toxicity of the used and developed materials, life cycle assessment (LCA) and REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemical substances) are major parts of this project. This comprehensive approach shows high scientific potential and will enable the creation of new bio-based and multifunctional flame retardants with highly sophisticated properties and defined functionalities which also respect the environment, health and safety.
The coordinating University undertakes high-quality research in a wide range of technological areas (chemistry, physics, geophysics, material physics, metallurgy, mineral resources & petroleum engineering, product engineering, polymeric materials, sustainable waste management and technology, structural and functional ceramics, material science, etc.) and has an excellent reputation.
The university is looking for SME partners with expertise in processing and testing of polymers in particular, which are active within one or more of the following fields:
a) Energy (pipes, cable and wires etc.)
b) Transport (automotive, aircraft, aerospace and train components etc.)
c) Building (insulation, PVC window frames etc.)
Furthermore, knowledge in following areas would be helpful:
e) Standardization
f) Safety aspects
g) Material provider
Technical Specifications / Specific technical requirements:
Call: FP7-NMP-2011-Nanosciences, Nanotechnologies, Materials and new Production Technologies
NMP.2012.2.2.-5 Halogen-free flame retardant materials
Deadline 1st Stage Proposal Submission: 08.11.2011 (2nd Stage 26.4.2012)
Funding for SME participants: approx. 75% (including all overhead costs)
Additional SME partners with expertise in processing and testing of polymers are invited to join an existing project consortium.
