Název projektu:
PS: FP7 - KBBE.2012.2.3-03: Automation for food packaging systems (11 GB 42O1 3MC4)
Popis:
A UK based research centre seeks partners for a project under the 2012 FP7 KBBE call aiming to refine and integrate sensing, handling and packaging technologies towards producing hygienic automated packaging systems for the food sector. Both academic and industrial partners involved in packaging equipment manufacture, automation, ICT systems, hygienic design, LCA, food production/packaging are sought as detailed below.
Many foodstuffs are packed manually. This is tedious & repetitive for the employees leading to both physical health issues and process inconsistencies. The human interaction also presents potential food/package contamination routes. The packaging process would benefit from automation. However, substantial technical challenges exist in terms of reliable sensing and non-damage handling systems to deal with the wide range of foodstuffs packed at different times on an individual line. In addition, many foods are biologically variable and these inconsistencies also need to be accommodated. Further challenges are presented by the large number of, and frequently changing, package types and configurations.
This project seeks to refine and integrate sensing, handling and packaging technologies towards producing hygienic automated packaging systems for the food sector. Using modular approaches, sensory, grasping, manipulation, and ICT integration sub-systems will be developed to deal with permutations of product type and packaging demand. The outline work packages will consist:
1). Benchmark existing packaging operations in terms of efficiency, hygiene and sustainability to form performance baselines and food packaging process specifications.
2). Review of previous, current and emerging technologies. Determine state of the art in terms of packaging technology, market trends, sensors, grippers, ICT systems, and food types with respect to their behaviour during packaging.
3). Development of subsystems
a). Sensors
b). Grasping
c). Packaging and product transfer equipment
d). Operational software (stock control/order books/MIS/traceability)
e). Packaging environment control for product quality (temperature, humidity, etc)
4). Systems integration for proof of concept demonstrator for exemplar packaging tasks.
5). Industrial evaluation on SME food producer sites against benchmark performance data determined in 1).
Technical Specifications / Specific technical requirements:
The research centre has substantial experience in leading multipartner EU projects in food process engineering, and experience of developing handling systems for foodstuffs. The proposal is being prepared in response to the FP7 topic: KBBE.2012.2.3-03: Automation for food packaging systems.
