Název projektu:
PS-FP7: Food ingredient producers needed for functional food project (11 GB 46P4 3MIU)
Popis:
A Scottish university is part of a consortium of academic organisations, SMEs and large food companies, developing a project which aims to address health issues by evaluating novel, local bioactive ingredients in marketable food products.
They seek: SMEs producing ingredients with potential health-enhancing properties (addressing high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol etc); and SMEs with existing food (or functional food) products (cereal bars, drinks, etc) for redevelopment.
The project aims to gain a better understanding of the role and mechanisms of bioactive compounds from dietary sources, that may have a beneficial effect on human health.
The project will evaluate the efficacy, availability and mechanisms of different novel and local bioactive ingredients in marketable food products, developed by small and medium sized enterprises.
The consortium seeks SMEs producing ingredients with potential health-enhancing properties (addressing high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol etc); and SMEs with existing food (or functional food) products (cereal bars, drinks, etc) for redevelopment.
The advantage to SMEs taking part will be:
- robust testing of their own ingredients
- access to novel functional ingredients
- access to ingredients which have undergone robust testing
- the opportunity to reformulate, market/rebrand their products as health enhancing (with robust claims)
- to offer consumers improved vascular and metabolic health
The consortium will apply state-of-the-art human dietary intervention trials and screening methods, backed up with extensive functional characterisation of bioactive compounds and the identification of short term efficacy biomarkers to predict long-term functional effects. Overall this will generate the data that would support a functional health claim for food producers to use on packaging.
Technical Specifications / Specific technical requirements:
EU call: KBBE.2012.2.2-01: Beneficial effects of bioactive compounds in humans (deadline 15th November 2011)
Call: FP7-KBBE-2012-6. The aim of this topic is to gain a better understanding of the role and mechanisms of bioactive compounds from dietary sources that may have a beneficial effect on human health. The availability and activity of bioactive compounds should be measured, together with their effect on physiologically relevant end-points.
The research in this proposal aims to increase scientific knowledge through the use of biomarkers that are relevant to humans. Therefore, appropriate dietary intervention studies are needed to clearly demonstrate the effects of bioactive compounds. The requested European Union contribution will be EUR 6 000 000.
Research consortium currently consists of European academic institutions, dissemination partners, small and medium sized enterprises and large food production companies.
Potential partners should be SMEs with:
- ingredient(s) which may provide health enhancing properties, and/or
- food products which are already in the market, which can be redeveloped to include proven health-enhancing ingredients which will differentiate them from competitors' products. Such products will include cereal bars, drinks etc.
Companies with ingredients to be tested will need to be able supply these in sufficient quantities for robust testing; those with food products should be interested in further developing their product range, therefore open to testing ingredients with proven health-enhancing properties in their product range.
