Název projektu:
Seeking Durable Composite for Exterior Siding with Appearance of Clapboards (11 US 87GA 3M7C)
Popis:
A large US company is looking for proposals for a material to make an exterior siding product with the appearance of clapboards.
They are interested in licensing, product acquisition, contract research, proof of concept leading to scale up to manufacturing, joint development, supplier agreement.
The company seeks a generation siding composite that combines the positive attributes of vinyl or fiber cement cladding without the negatives. For example, they seek a composite with the rigidity and feel of fiber cement and the weight and installation ease of vinyl.
Anticipated approaches include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:
- Laminations similar to engineering flooring
- Composites using recycled materials.
The following approaches will not be considered:
- Ingredients that lead to toxic exposure or emissions during manufacture, installation or during product life
- Solutions that require long-term development.
Technical Specifications / Specific technical requirements:
The successful technology will:
- Produce the appearance of clapboard siding with a 7-inch exposure and 5/8 inch projection
Composite may either be strips that are overlapped or may be a sheet-like panel
Concept should allow larger face widths at a future point
- Have a seamless appearance
Joins should be difficult to detect
Gaps between panels or ends of strips should be ‹0.0030 inches even with fluctuations in temperature
- Be fit for use in exterior application
Be stable and robust from -20 to +200°F
Preferably offer 50 year lifespan, including weathering
Ideally limit heat absorption in a range of colors and heat gains
- Have a class A fire rating
- Be available in colors
Preferably also be receptive to paint
- Use materials that:
Have an acceptable health and safety profile
Are commercially available for large scale consumption
- Have acceptable unit cost at commercial scale
- Maintain ease of installation.
