Název projektu:
Seeking experience and know-how in Sitka Spruce processing and related products (11 FR 34K2 3LCT)
Popis:
A French cluster working with Sitka Spruce in the forest and timber industries is notably interested in exchanging experiences with Irish, Scottish or Danish companies about the construction products made of Sitka, technologies and transformation process used or being developed. It aims to add value to that timber by promoting its use in building and encourage the structuring of Sitka Spruce industry and new products development to supply its domestic market. Technical cooperation is sought.
This French one-year-old cluster composed of prescribers, such as architects, people from forest planning, forest planting, harvesting, transport, processing and building industries. In its area, there are 45,000 ha plantation which represents 15% of the land, mainly of private property. The dominant species is Sitka Spruce (about 15,000 ha).
The plantations have been made in the 1960s so they are now mature and the sawmills (which make pallets and little construction timber) have to adapt their tools to process bigger trees and get better efficiency to meet the strong demand of the local construction market. Indeed, Breton Sitka Spruce could substitute for a part of the imported timber from Scandinavia or Russia. However, currently, that raw material is used for 80% in the pallets industry and for 20% in the building industry (studs for timber frame market).
Therefore the purpose of the French cluster is to add value to that timber by promoting its use in the local construction market, and by encouraging the structuring of the Sitka Spruce industry and the development of new products to supply its local distribution network.
The French cluster offers to share its experiences and technical informations in the following fields:
- The study currently being done to set grading machines to be able to sort more efficiently Sitka Spruce in sawmills, because currently a visual grading method is still used. The French cluster had already made some researches and experimentations (kiln drying, thermal modification etc...).
- Its expertise in organic fight against a predator of Sitka Spruce.
- The type of organization in cluster, gathering all the links in the wood chain, thus allowing to create synergy between people. This is essential to set up common projects and enables to speed up the work.
- Thanks to its knowledge of the French wood energy market, the cluster knows the opportunities it can offer.
The French cluster representatives are willing notably to exchange experiences with:
-Irish and Scottish companies because their Sitka Spruce seems to have quite the same mechanical properties as the French one,
-Danish companies because of the high quantity of Sitka Spruce and also its high quality level due to the different climate in their area.
The final aim of those exchanges would be to set up an EU cooperation program.
Technical Specifications / Specific technical requirements:
New solutions in Sikta wood transformation are sought: different construction products made of Sitka, the technologies and processes used or under development...
