Název projektu:
Technology for automated online and off line detection and measurement of 3D defects in 3D packaging
Popis:
Abstract:
A multinational active in the consumer goods sector looks for automated ways of detecting and measuring online and off line 3D defects in 3D packaging production lines. The company will favour partners with existing technologies but is nevertheless open to partnerships with limited development work.
Description:
Consumers desire perfect dent free packages and properly affixed labels on 3D rigid packaging without noticeable imperfections, wrinkles, or bubbles.
Currently, this multinational has no way of detecting and measuring these imperfections as part of its automated packaging process, and no cost-effective way of gaining useful information about these imperfections that could be used to reduce or eliminate them.
In the packaging development labs of the multinational, label imperfections on 3D rigid packaging are checked by a labor-intensive manual/visual inspection. This method is slow, expensive, and inaccurate with limited learning gained on identifying causes and informing efforts to reduce or eliminate these imperfections.
As a consequence, the multinational seeks technology and development partners for an automated system to check the quality of these labels, and to detect, measure and record critical information about these imperfections which would inform changes in processes, materials, or equipment to reduce or eliminate these imperfections. Such technology would first be applied for off-line lab tests, and then ideally be scaled for use in the on-line packaging system for real-time monitoring during packaging production.
Technical Specifications / Specific technical requirements of the request
The requested technology should meet the following technical requirements:
1/ Off-line application (Packaging development lab): Currently the packaging development lab does pilot lab tests of several thousand samples at a time. The goal is to utilize automated technology for the detection and the measurement. Data recording of these imperfections and other factors is needed to inform about and/or eliminate or reduce such defects.
2/ On-line packaging system application: Technology which can be integrated into our existing on-line packaging systems for the automated detection and measurement. Data recording of these imperfections and other factors is needed to inform about and/or reduce or eliminate any 3D defects. On-line system should be capable of measuring 100% of packaging at 100-500 units-per-minute or 10-50 meters per minute and be capable of being integrated into existing packaging lines.
3/ Offline and online applications:
- Equipment must work with rigid 3D packaging, made of various materials (HDPE, LDPE PET,PS, …)
- Equipment must work with pressure sensitive labels made of any material (paper, plastic) and with shrink sleeves.
- Equipment must detect defects as small as 2mm (what the unaided human eye can detect)
- Equipment must be capable of measuring and recording information about defects
Possible solution(s) include but are not limited to:
- Development of 3D measurement via combining existing technologies, potential thinking routes:
- On line 3D detection + 2D measurement = 3D measurement
- On line 2D measurement + online detection = 3D measurement
- From static to online dynamic
- 3D laser scanning, for example from Nikon Metrology (Nikon bought Metris 3D scanning)
- Multi angle camera inspection
- Ultrasound technology
