A Turkish company operating in textile industry (yarn production) with a ring spinning plant is looking for an eco-innovative solution to manage cotton processing wastes which are produced in high quantities.Currently cotton waste is burned in a rural place which is a common application in the region.Since the transportation and disposal is costly in addition to the ecological issues, company is searching for technologies, economically feasible for valuation and/or safe disposal of the wastes.
A Turkish textile company of medium size (150 employees) produces carded and combed yarns in a ring spinning plant, processing 500 tons of cotton annually. The major environmental problem encountered by the enterprise is the management of cotton processing waste. As it is the case for other enterprises operational in the region from the same sector, the produced waste is burned in a rural area away from the facility. This situation causes environmental pollution as well as economical burden in the form of transportation cost.
Since the transportation and disposal are costly in addition to the ecological issues, the company is searching for technologies, technically and economically feasible for valuation and/or safe disposal of the produced wastes. The waste is composed of entangled or very short fibers that cannot be used for knit or woven textiles. The company carried out some research and development activities to get rid of this waste in a sustainable manner including animal feed production and burning for energy generation. However none of the solutions offered by local experts were satisfactory for the company.
Technical Specifications / Specific technical requirements:
The company is looking for any technology applicable to the cotton processing waste resulting from carded and combed yarns production. Since %40 of the raw material (cotton) is wasted in the form of entangled or very short fibers, cotton seeds and dust, annual production of the waste is in the range of 15-35 tons. The technologies which enable in-plant recycle or value-added product formation would be welcome by the company.
